Blue Chip Meetings 2014

BLUE CHIP HIGH SCHOOL UMPIRES JERRY FICK, SECRETARY 3016 AMBLER DRIVE CINCINNATI, OHIO 45241 (513) 563-2755 swdoc@fuse.net
January 2, 2014
Dear Blue Chip Umpire:
Soon our meetings will be underway. We will again be at Finneytown High School, 8916 Fontainebleau – just west of Winton Road (north of Galbraith and south of Compton). Dates are:
Monday, February 3 Monday, February 10 Wednesday, February 19 Monday, February 24 Monday, March 3 Monday, March 10 Wednesday, March 19 Monday, March 24 Monday, March 31 Monday, April 7
All sessions will start at 7:00 p.m. Please note that we have increased our number of meetings scheduled for 2014 and will have two meetings after the start of the season which is March 29. At the same time, with the additional meetings, it is unlikely that we will reschedule any meetings cancelled due weather conditions. Please plan accordingly and remember your minimum requirement of four local rules meetings.
One of our veteran umpires, Jack Fisher, is the principal at Finneytown and has again been gracious enough to open his school to us. Let’s make sure that we are “good guests” and continue to leave the building in the same good condition we find it.
Your dues remain at only $15 and because of new OHSAA attendance recording procedures these are to be paid at your first meeting. Attendance credit can be given only to the umpires who have paid their dues. If you prefer you may also mail a check payable to Blue Chip Umpires to the above address. Late Dues will increase to $25. Please pay promptly as we only want to collect $15 from each of you.
We also call to your attention the following mandatory OHSAA clinics this year:
Wednesday, March 5 OHSAA State Rules Interpretation Meetings at Kings High School Softball – 6:00 P.M. – Baseball – 7:15 P.M. There will also be an online state meeting option – consult your mailing from the OHSAA, myohsaa, or www.ohsaa.org for details.
For locations of other state or local meetings consult your mailing from OHSAA, visit www.ohsaa.org or your myohsaa account.
Also note mandatory for ASA softball tournament umpires: ASA Metro Umpires Clinic Saturday, February 15 – St. Rita School for the Deaf – 9 to 4 Sunday, February 16 – Mid America Ballyard – Sunday 9 to 1
Cincinnati ASA is continuing to grow with many new leagues in both fast pitch and slow pitch this year. This is a great way for umpires to work all summer. Attend this clinic and learn more!
Remember high school umpires must attend four meetings – the ASA meeting counts for softball umpires as one meeting each day toward the high school requirement. Attendance at the ASA clinic is mandatory for umpires working ASA tournaments.
ASA umpires should also note that additional information concerning clinics, meetings, and annual registration will be sent to you in the near future. The ASA National Umpire School will be held in Massillon, Ohio March 1 & 2. If you would like details on the NUS visit cincinnatiasa.com.
AN IMPORTANT NOTE – We are all working very hard to recruit new umpires in both baseball and softball. You are our best source for new umpires. For details relating to new baseball umpires contact Don Reuss, Baseball Class Instructor at dreuss21@gmail.com or 518-6327. For details concerning new softball umpires please contact me at 563-755 or swdoc@fuse.net. Due to new OHSAA procedures all new umpires must register for the class online and in advance. Class participants should contact Don for baseball or me for softball and we will forward all registration procedures and details. Email works best for this!
AN ADDITIONAL IMPORTANT NOTE – Please visit the myohsaa section (upper right hand corner) at www.ohsaa.org. Use the username and password that was sent with your state permit to log on, set up your profile, and check information on meeting dates and sites. You must enter your email address on your profile as that is the way that the OHSAA, member schools, and the Blue Chip Association will communicate with you. Also remember to update your account with changes to your phone number or your addresses. It is also important to check this as we have several umpires who have not renewed their OHSAA permits for 2014 (the renewal was due June 30, 2013) and must do a late renewal by January 31 (note: NO extensions are granted) in order to umpire this year. If you can not access your account it is likely that you have not renewed. Late renewal information can be found at this link: www.ohsaa.org/officials/renewpermit.htm
We are all excited about the coming season and look forward to seeing you at the upcoming meetings.
Sincerely yours,
Jerry Fick swdoc@fuse.net
